"Phweet! Harmony, good job!"
Harmony Dar'Nalen grinned saucily at her twin brother, older by two minutes. "Ee. Thank you very much, big brother!"
Valiance smiled, a beaming, brotherly grin that spoke of overprotectiveness and a feeling of responsibility towards his very cute younger sister, with her head of raven hair that curled at the ends oh-so-cutely and had those big purple eyes that could make the hardiest warrior blush and go hanyaaaa~n, Harmony-chan!! with one of those silly, lovesick grins. "Okey," he said, readying his darts. "Ready for another go?"
Harmony pouted very cutely. "Hah? Again?! Big brother, shouldn't we take a break from such rigorous training?!"
Valiance put on his best I'm-your-Big-Bro-and-I-Know-What's-Best-For-You face. "Well, if that's what you'd like, but your Big Brother knows for a sure fact that enemies won't let you catch breaks!!"
Harmony absently tugged on her knee-length hair. "Well, isn't it great that you aren't an enemy, then, big brother?"
Valiance sighed. Harmony's logic was at it's sharpest today. "Fine fine," he relented, holding up his hands in defeat. "Go on."
Harmony beamed. "Oh, thank you, Valiance!!" She threw her arms around him and as if nature was sweetening her actions further, a gust of wind blew around them. "You're ever so wonderful to your one and only very cute sister!"
Valiance patted her back and half-smiled. His sister sure knew how to be melodramatic. But it was one of the things he loved best about his Harmony. Her sunny smiles and sweet disposition, coupled with her somewhat dramatic flair, made for good entertainment, relaxing him in even the most troubled times. And Valiance was troubled. Prophetic dreams like the one he had just last night never bode well for anyone.
"You'll have to stay for dinner, of course!" Harmony suddenly piped up, stepping away from him. "Mama's cooking your favorite!"
Valiance's clear blue eyes widened in excitement. "You don't mean...!"
Harmony nodded. "Her special chicken and vegetable stew! Guarantees warm fuzzies in your tummy all day long!"
"PHWEET! Then of course I'm staying, Harmony!!"
"I knew you would."
<...?>
Valiance's smile vanished suddenly, and he glanced up. Confused, Harmony blinked.
"Ano...?" she began in their native language.
TSEEEER!!
"Harmony, down!"
She did not disobey. At once Harmony was flat on the grass, just as an Ibon flew inches above her head. Ibon were large birds the size of horses, almost invisible because they were transparent, with large wingspans and usually lovely green eyes. And while most Ibon wre wild, they were naturally peaceful herbivores who tended to shy away from human contact and remain hidden in their Floating Isles. So it was very disconcerting to find that this certain Ibon had suddenly turned rabid, it's green eyes a deep violet, highly unnatural for any Ibon Valiance had ever seen before.
It flew overhead, and then wheeled around, ready for another attack.
"Big brother!" Harmony shouted. Valiance ran in front of her, yelling for her to stay down as he threw a poisoned dart towards the oncoming animal.
<!!!>
A sharp zephyr batted the dart aside, and a fierce wind blew, the roaring of the air nearly drowning out the Ibon's battle call. Valiance pulled out another dart, shielding his eyes from the sudden windstorm, <what's going on--?!>
"TSEEEEEEEERR!!"
Valiance looked up at the familiar scream. Another Ibon had flown down from the sky, an Ibon unlike any most people had ever seen. It was a deep gold colour, with a long crest tipped with silver, and an equally long tail similarly-colored, and its eyes shone a fierce orange. It opened its beak and screamed again, and there was a splash of red that colored the sky.
<Windam!!>
Valiance's pet fought with the wild Ibon, a flurry of feathers and a symphony of angry calls. A shimmering, near-invisible figure fell from the sky, landing twenty feet away in a jumble of blood-drenched feathers, and Windam landed in front of its master, tucking its wings to its sides.
"Phweet! Good job, Windam." Valiance let out a soft sigh of relief. His Ibon was barely scratched. "You scared me."
Windam cooed, a soft, reassuring sound. And then it raised its crested head, suspicious.
Harmony screamed.
Valiance whirled around, and found that Harmony had risen to her feet, clutching at his sleeve. She pointed.
Valiance gasped, a sound lost in another roaring wind.
Tornadoes.
There were five of them.
They were surrounded.
And quite suddenly, a circle around Valiance's feet glowed bright white, and a force of magic surged forth, knocking both Harmony and Windam aside.
"Harmony!"
"Valiance!"
Valiance looked down at himself in horror. He was...fading?!
He looked up, saw Harmony, trying to pass the invisible barrier that had suddenly ensconced him, her slender fists beating upon the wall. "Valiance!" she shouted, her purple eyes panicked and frightened. "VALIANCE!!"
"Harmony!" Valiance jumped forward, and the shield disappeared, and he managed to touch Harmony's hand--
--Harmony shouted his name--
--and Valiance Dar'Nalen suddenly vanished in a whirl of light.
Harmony stared, wide-eyed, at the empty space in front of her.
<...Big...Brother...?>
The winds shrieked, as if in fury.
And Harmony yelled for her brother.
"VALIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I'm not quite sure how the characters were supposed to disappear, of if they were supposed to disappear, so just tell me what's up and I'll edit this post. >__O
